It Never Too Late to Sleep Train The LowStress Way to HighQuality Sleep for Babies Kids and Parents Craig Canapari MD 9781635652727 Books Reviews
- I’m a pediatrician and a dad to four flavorful kids who have schooled me in most of the ways sleep can go sideways.
I am so happy this book exists!
On a personal note, I do go way back with the author and have really appreciated his generous online pediatric sleep presence over the past years (as well as hilarious stories about his two boys).
On a professional note, I have been waiting for a book like this my whole pediatric career. I have many sleep books in my collection but this is my new favorite.
Here’s why you want this book
Dr. Canapari keeps it real he knows you may be beyond tired, stressed, and feeling guilty about having “ruined†your child’s sleep, attachment, and future (you haven’t). You will appreciate the glimpses you get into various Canapari misadventures along they way, and will not get shamed into doing it “his way.â€
His advice is clear, funny, actionable, and yet flexible enough to work in various modern family configurations and parenting philosophies (this is NOT just a cry-it-out book).
Many sleep books are about helping infants sleep independently. This book does that well, but more importantly covers up through school age for families who need help outside of infancy. Dr. Canapari has a greatest hits of evidence- and experience-based sleep techniques for older kids up in here.
This book is well-structured and just the right length. There are parts you can skip but Dr. Canapari is clear about the parts you shouldn’t. When it comes to the action plan there is often more than one option, and they are laid out in ways that are easy to understand and actually use when you are in zombie mode.
Dr. Canapari is Director of the Yale Pediatric Sleep Center and the most online accessible sleep doc I know. He has seen and heard all the ways these action plans go subtly or spectacularly wrong, so he has a lot of solid gold advice about how to help families succeed at sleep, even and especially when they have failed in the past.
As a pediatrician I can relate that the advice you give and and life you live don’t always match up. This book gets that. This guy is a world class pediatric sleep expert who is also living this parenting life with two spicy young guys. I think you will find it relatable and very very helpful.
So yes, I’m a super-fan — of Dr. Canapari, his family, and his fantastic new sleep book.
